5 critical Jayden Daniels observations from Commanders 2024 training camp
By Dean Jones
Jayden Daniels was under the microscope more than arguably anyone else on the Washington Commanders this offseason. Those in power thought he had every possible credential needed to become the team's next franchise quarterback. Other signal-callers were considered, but revelations after the draft indicated this was their guy from a long way out.
The No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft didn't take anything for granted despite being one of the first names called. Daniels knew that anything he accomplished at the collegiate level counted for nothing in the pros. The Commanders were keen to make him earn everything, bringing a positive response from the dual-threat weapon in no uncertain terms.
Optimism was high surrounding Daniels. After a sensational summer so far, it's through the roof. Something the player deserves an enormous amount of credit for with the spotlight glaring.
With this in mind, here are five critical observations from Daniels over Washington's 2024 training camp.
Critical observations from Jayden Daniels at Commanders 2024 training camp
Jayden Daniels' release
It's hard not to be impressed by Jayden Daniels' mechanics. The former LSU star is technically sound, which centers on his rapid-fire release that gets the football out quickly and on time.
Daniels put this on full display during training camp. The football comes out like lightning. There's a good touch over short-to-intermediate routes and velocity to his sideline distribution. There are no wasted movements and real conviction in his pocket presence.
The Heisman Trophy winner showcased this frequently over camp. Daniels also displayed this impressive trait to full effect over his involvement in the Washington Commanders' first two preseason games - something that only whets the appetite further heading into his debut NFL campaign.
Most rookies come with mechanical flaws that need to be rectified. Based on what we've seen from Daniels this summer, there are very few flaws attached to this discipline. Couple this with the accuracy at all three levels of the field, and it's not hard to see why the Commanders might have something special on their hands.
