5 Commanders revenge games fans must circle on their 2024 calendars
As the Washington Commanders embark on a new journey with the 2024 season, featuring a new coaching staff and front office, they will have a chance to face off against some familiar faces and foes. They've known about this for a while, but players and coaches got the chance to circle some specific dates in the calendar after the NFL officially released its schedule for the upcoming campaign.
Let's look at five revenge-themed games where the Commanders will be facing off against former players and the coaching staff will be looking to embarrass their old employers when competitive action arrives once again.
Commanders at Cardinals - Week 5
When the Washington Commanders visit Phoenix to face off against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 of the 2024 season, it will allow offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, to enact revenge. This will be a quick reunion between the two sides, with the play-caller going up versus a franchise he knows well just a few short weeks after his return to the pros.
After giving him his first NFL head coaching job and offering him a six-year contract extension in 2022, the Cardinals reversed course and fired Kingsbury after the team finished 4-13 that season. One of the deciding factors that led to his removal from the equation was the disconnect that seemed to grow between himself and star quarterback Kyler Murray.
In his return, Kingsbury can show that not only has he grown as a coach - being able to adapt his offense to challenges - but can stick it to Murray by showcasing his work with Jayden Daniels. The No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft can make a big statement and help his coach claim bragging rights along the way.
Another former Cardinal - Washington's new tight end Zach Ertz - will also have a chance to show his old team that he still has a lot more left in the tank.
