Players are jockeying for positions and critical roster spots at training camp. Head coach Dan Quinn and his staff have a good inkling of where things stand right now with the first padded practice in the rearview mirror. However, there is still time to alter perceptions during the team's remaining sessions and their preseason slate.

It's been refreshing to see the energy and positive tempo throughout the summer. The standards expected increased exponentially but the roster is responding well. This should stand them in tremendous stead when the time comes for regular season action in Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Some players have risen to the occasion and given the coaching staff plenty to ponder heading into the business end of camp. Others haven't been as fortunate and find themselves playing catch-up before their fate is decided.

With this in mind, here are five Commanders players losing critical ground at the team's training camp in 2024.

Kazmeir Allen - Commanders WR/KR

The only way Kazmeir Allen is going to make the team is as a kick/punt returner. His prospects didn't look especially promising heading into camp. Things look a lot more difficult now.

After rotating with others for kicking duties during a lengthy audition up to now, the Washington Commanders acquired another potential candidate to secure the special teams' spot. Those in power brought back wide receiver Byron Pringle, who spent time with the team last season and will look to stake his claim in the days ahead.

Pringle would offer more in the passing game, although he was underused by previous offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy last season. What's important for Allen is not worrying about circumstances outside of his control. He must get his head down, focus on the task at hand, and work tirelessly to convince the coaching staff he's worthy of a shot under this exciting regime.

It's a tough task, but nothing Allen wasn't fully aware of coming into camp.
