Commanders TE Logan Thomas stood out

The Washington Commanders are still reeling from the news that Armani Rogers will miss the entire 2023 campaign after tearing his Achilles. Considering how serious this particular complication can be, the dynamic young pass-catching tight end might never get back to his old self.

That's the unfortunate nature of the business. A real opportunity awaited Rogers, but the Commanders cannot stand on ceremony - they must adopt a next-man-up mentality in the hope of improving productivity within this much-maligned positional group.

Washington didn't address the position via the 2023 NFL Draft, although a new recruit could come into the fold for depth purposes in camp if nothing else. However, there's been a lot to like about Logan Thomas' performance levels this offseason, who is the clear No. 1 tight end option currently.

Thomas rounded off a decent OTAs with a standout showing on Thursday. He looks 100 percent healthy and with a renewed sense of purpose to boot, so it's not hard to see how the former quarterback might thrive under a prolific play-caller such as Eric Bieniemy.

Many projected Thomas to be a salary-cap casualty at some stage this offseason. With Rogers now on the shelf, that's unlikely to be the case.
