Which Washington Commanders newcomers could make surprising contributions with a smooth transition before the upcoming 2023 season?

The Washington Commanders have done well with limited resources throughout the recruitment phase this offseason. Ron Rivera and his staff worked with one hand tied behind their back thanks to the ongoing sale saga, which is mercifully almost at an end following months of speculation.

That's inconsequential to River from a football standpoint at this stage. The head coach must make the most of what he has and there is a lot to work with from a talent standpoint heading into the 2023 campaign.

An added layer of urgency to make strides next season is evident. For this to occur, some lesser heralded figures acquired during the offseason must far exceed expectations.

With this in mind, here are three Commanders newcomers that could surprise people in 2023.

Kazmeir Allen - Commanders WR/KR

It will be difficult for Kazmeir Allen to generate targets in the passing game. But that's not entirely what attracted him to those in power within the Washington Commanders.

Ron Rivera has already lauded the undrafted free agent for his kick return capabilities. This is an area where the Commanders could use assistance and if Allen impresses enough throughout the summer, he might get the nod.

It was surprising to see Allen not hear his name called during the 2023 NFL Draft. It didn't take the Commanders long to snap him up afterward, so don't be surprised if the one-time UCLA star becomes a key special teams contributor right out of the gate.
