Chase Roullier could join Colts after Commanders release
The Indianapolis Colts made the biggest feast or famine move of the 2023 NFL Draft by selecting quarterback Anthony Richardson at No. 4 overall. A prospect that was also reportedly coveted by the Washington Commanders, who were willing to move up if the Florida product was still on the board at No. 7.
Now that the Colts have what will hopefully become their franchise signal-caller to succeed Andrew Luck, they must do everything in their power to protect him. Former first-rounder Ryan Kelly endured a rough campaign overall in 2022, so strengthing their offensive line options with Chase Roullier is something for those in power to ponder.
Even though the Washington Commanders deemed Roullier surplus to requirements, that doesn't mean he cannot be useful elsewhere. Indianapolis is a good landing spot, which would allow Kelly to potentially switch to the right guard position opposite All-Pro Quenton Nelson.
Colts owner Jim Irsay stated following the draft that they plan to have Richardson on the field early. This means the protection in front of the dual-threat weapon must improve if Indianapolis wants an immediate return on its investment.
The team could do worse than look in Roullier's direction. A consistent, proven performer with the athletic intangibles and football IQ needed to become a tremendous asset.
