3 former Commanders who struggled (and 1 who thrived) in Week 3
By Seth Jones
After a wild week in the NFL, especially for the Washington Commanders after a shock victory under the bright lights over the Cincinnati Bengals, it's time to wind down and take a look at how some former team players performed around the league.
In this piece, we will be looking at a unique mix of former Commanders, a couple who departed from Washington in the years gone by. Three struggled for differing reasons, but one put together an outstanding performance.

Former Commanders players who struggled in Week 3
Jahan Dotson
Jahan Dotson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason. It was a big shock, as in-division trades rarely happen.
Many people believed that Philadelphia easily won the trade. So far in 2024, it is looking like Washington is the club coming out of this transaction smiling.
The Eagles came into their Week 3 game at the New Orleans Saints already without their superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown. On top of that, DeVonta Smith got knocked out of the game after a helmet-to-helmet hit. This gave Dotson a huge opportunity to prove he could be a valuable contributor by while his team was short of dependable options.
Dotson did not deliver. He finished the game with two catches and eight yards from three targets. Needless to say, he is a former Commanders player who struggled in Week 3.
Morgan Moses
The last time Morgan Moses took a snap for the Commanders franchise was in 2020. He's had stints with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets since then, but his Week 3 didn't go according to plan.
Moses allowed three pressures and three hurries. He also conceded two penalties against the New England Patriots. Luckily for the offensive tackle, Aaron Rodgers looked like his old self in terms of pocket navigation.
To make matters worse, Moses also suffered a knee injury. Luckily for the player and the Jets, it's not as bad as initially feared.
Brandon Scherff
The Jacksonville Jaguars offense has struggled mightily in 2024. There's plenty of blame to go around as another season that promised much could deliver very little.
Some people blame head coach Doug Pederson. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and the offensive line are also coming under scrutiny. The truth is, it's a mix of all these variables.
The once-elite Brandon Scherff is a shell of who he was back in Washington. He hasn't been a huge help in piecing the Jaguars offense back together. In Week 3's blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, the interior lineman allowed three pressures and three hurries. He also committed a penalty.
One former Commanders player thrived in Week 3
Montez Sweat
The Chicago Bears might have lost to the Indianapolis Colts, but it was not due to the defense. Anthony Richardson was picked off three times. One of the reasons he made these bad decisions is due to the pressure he was under.
Montez Sweat only had two pressures, but he also had a sack. One of his pressures caused Richardson to step up in the pocket and make an egregious decision which lead to a Jaylon Johnson interception.
