While many anticipated the Washington Commanders providing Eric Bieniemy with everything needed to be successful, Ron Rivera's primary early focus was on the defensive side of things. Not entirely surprising considering the coach's background, but something that was disappointing to some considering what the team overlooked over the opening rounds.

Obviously, the repercussions will be severe for Rivera if it doesn't work out. Josh Harris' ownership group is going to get their sale confirmed in the coming weeks, so the pressure is on for Washington to make the postseason in 2023.

For now, the Commanders' draft represents good news for defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. He has two new starters in the secondary and can also call upon a pair of promising edge rushers with high athletic traits in the form of K.J. Henry and Andre Jones Jr.

Bieniemy did get two new offensive linemen and a development running back. However, the Commanders focused their top-end attention on improving a defense that was already considered among the league's best.

A strange decision, to be honest. Whether it pays off for Rivera or not with new ownership looming large remains to be seen.
