3 bold Sam Howell predictions for Commanders vs. Cardinals in Week 1
By Dean Jones
Sam Howell secures 75.0 QBR
The Washington Commanders don't need Sam Howell to be a hero. Their defense is gifted enough to keep them in most games, so managing things more effectively on offense could be the spark that ignites this team to better fortunes.
This comes down to poise, accuracy, and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise. Howell hasn't shown any signs of feeling the pressure this summer despite his severe upturn in responsibilities, but this afternoon's game versus the Arizona Cardinals is a chance to set the tone.
Things are only going to get tougher for Howell and the Commanders after this looking at their schedule. Therefore, building positive momentum in front of a jam-packed home crowd firmly on his side is absolutely imperative.
If Howell can maximize the weapons around him, take what the defense gives on any given down, and make the odd big slash downfield, that should be enough for the Commanders to put up the points needed. It should also give the former North Carolina stud a pretty decent QBR upon the contest's conclusion.
Anything above 65.0 would be a legitimate accomplishment in the circumstances. But these are bold predictions for a reason, so Howell should be striving for 75.0 from his first game as the Commanders' official starting quarterback - hopefully for the long term.
