The Washington Commanders recently made a much-needed move to improve their wide receiver room, signing Stefon Diggs. The veteran wideout has already got right to work with the team, as he will likely play a big role for a Washington team that should contend.
Diggs’ presence was needed, but the Commanders also have talented young players — including in the wide receiver room. One of those promising young wideouts have already caught Diggs’ eye.
Speaking with the media on Friday, the newly signed receiver had some praise and jokes for rookie wideout Antonio Williams.

Diggs only referenced Williams by his number, joking that rookies have to earn being called by their name. Nevertheless, the veteran wideout has been impressed with “14” and is ready to serve as a veteran mentor to him and any of the other young receivers on the roster.
This is certainly exciting news for Commanders fans who have high hopes for Williams. The rookie wideout was selected by Washington in the third round of the 2026 Draft, and has a chance to emerge as an immediate contributor for the offense. With Terry McLaurin and Diggs likely occupying the top two receiver spots now, Williams will compete with guys like Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, and Luke McCaffrey for the WR3 and WR4 spots.
Williams has had a promising training camp so far, and if he continues to make plays into the regular season, he should set himself up for playing time as a rookie. The wideout showed his hooping abilities during his four-year career at Clemson, where he caught 208 passes for 2,336 yards and 21 touchdowns. Now, Commanders fans are hoping his skills translate to the NFL and he can become a reliable option in Washington.
