NFL executives heap immense praise on Dan Quinn for Commanders' renaissance
By Dean Jones
The Washington Commanders are further ahead than most anticipated following a sensational start to the campaign. Improvements were expected in some capacity. Not many envisaged a 6-2 start through eight weeks.
There are so many encouraging elements to this equation. From the improved culture within the building, the galvanized fanbase, having a new franchise quarterback, and the strong offseason position in 2025, things are looking up for the Commanders at long last.
Washington's incredible success isn't going unnoticed by those around the league. When gauging how things are unfolding with the Commanders heading into the midway point, NFL executives speaking under anonymity to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN lauded the work being done by head coach Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, in particular, with the limited options at his disposal.
"That's not a great roster, particularly on defense, and they are pulling out wins impressively. [Dan] Quinn is a great motivator with a ton of energy and is getting them to play above their talent level. I know Jayden [Daniels] has been great, but what Quinn is doing is really good. I know it was easy to bag on [playcaller] Kliff Kingsbury, but he's really good at creating space for his playmakers and getting easy completions for mobile quarterbacks who can use their legs on later downs."

The Commanders made a concerted effort to not only revamp an underperforming roster throughout the offseason but to also find the right characters capable of buying into Quinn's shift in approach.
Commanders hired the right guy in head coach Dan Quinn
Quinn focused on building relationships and creating a brotherhood atmosphere within a group with the correct blend of youth and experience. There's a lot of football left, but the early signs are immensely encouraging.
This will also make Washington an extremely attractive destination heading into the next offseason. General manager Adam Peters can point to the team's rapidly improving trajectory to entice potential targets. The Commanders also have nine draft picks and more than $121.45 million in available salary-cap space with 30 players under contract.

Couple this with the ambitious plans off the field under Josh Harris' ownership group and the esteem in which Quinn is held around the league, the Commanders could enhance their prospects of contending in 2025.
Nobody is getting ahead of themselves. Quinn is doing a tremendous job of keeping everyone on an even keel. The Commanders are taking things one game at a time despite gaining prolonged positive national media attention for the first time in decades. There's also trust in the players to self-police the locker room and ensure everyone remains on the same page.
Any accomplishments in Year 1 are a bonus. The presence of rookie signal-caller Jayden Daniels will also ensure Washington quickly becomes a desirable hot spot for those looking to take their chances on different clubs in the coming years.
Regardless of whether fans wanted Quinn to be their head coach or not, he was the right guy to lead the Commanders into a prosperous new era. If this promising start to his tenure is the start of something bigger, it won't take long before Washington emerges as an NFL powerhouse.
