There is a growing consensus among respected analysts that the Washington Commanders' wide receiver room is a weakness. Those are valid claims, so it's down to general manager Adam Peters to do something about it.

Before the Commanders potentially delve back into the veteran pool, attention is turning to the 2026 NFL Draft. Washington has the No. 7 pick, and Peters cannot waste it. There are several defensive prospects well worth considering, but the need to provide quarterback Jayden Daniels with some extra quality on offense is arguably more essential.

Aside from Terry McLaurin, the Commanders don't have a prolific performer for Daniels to depend upon. New tight end Chig Okonkwo brings promise, but Washington is relying on possible breakouts aside from that. And even if Brandon Aiyuk does end up signing, that will not be enough to raise confidence.

Louis Riddick places Commanders' draft focus squarely around Jayden Daniels

Louis Riddick, who once held a position in Washington's front office and now works as an analyst for ESPN, added his name to the list of those who believe the Commanders need to focus on receiver at No. 7. However, he also thought that if Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is still available, Peters cannot turn away such a gift.

"If Jeremiyah Love falls to 7, you have to take him. He's not just a back, he's a weapon…I know the Brandon Aiyuk stuff is hanging out there, but I think WR has to be the No. 1 position they're looking at."

Love is the key. There is an enormous amount of smoke building around the prospect ending up in Washington. ESPN insider Adam Schefter has said several times that the Commanders make the most sense, but there are five picks in an uncertain draft to get through before this scenario becomes likely.

As Riddick stated, Love is much more than your average running back. His ball-carrying is elite, of course, but his prowess as a pass-catcher makes him a versatile pocket of dynamite capable of effectively kick-starting David Blough's time as offensive coordinator.

If Love isn't around, which is just as likely, then Riddick believes the Commanders have to address the wideout spot. Aiyuk's recent injury history makes him a risky bet, and there is no telling when the San Francisco 49ers will part ways with him. Whether it's Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon, or someone else, this unit needs an injection of energy it's currently lacking.

Peters knows what he's doing. Things didn't go well last season, but the aggressive moves this offseason suggest a quick bounce-back.

Another wide receiver will help. If it's Love, the NFL will be on notice.
