The Washington Commanders will need any kind of positive mojo they can find as they seek to bounce back from their disappointing five-win season in 2025 and return to playoff contention. With the highly anticipated new uniform release, they found exactly that.
The three-time Super Bowl-winning franchise's controversial 2022 rebrand is guaranteed to spark strong opinions, no matter who you ask. But what truly angered many longtime Washington fans was the decision not only to ditch the team's old name but also its iconic uniform design.
Now, Josh Harris and company have righted one of those wrongs, returning to the classic burgundy and gold look that defined Washington for decades. It's a compromise between the old and the new, and it's beautiful.
Josh Harris restored pride back to the Commanders, undoing the harm Dan Snyder inflicted
The Commanders' new uniforms have officially been unveiled. As expected, they are similar to the Super Bowl Era alternate design worn in four home games last season.

The burgundy and white primaries will serve as Washington's home and road colors, respectively, with black alternates that include a spear through the "W" on the helmet. It is also worth noting that the word Commanders does not appear anywhere on the jerseys.
Effectively, this is a redesign that aims to rekindle as much of the franchise's former glory as humanly possible. The name isn't going to come back, and that decision lies beyond the control of anyone involved in the organization right now. But for all intents and purposes, this is the same branding that Washington fans know and love.
It was understandable for the franchise to initially try introducing entirely new uniforms in 2022, under the mindset that it would be best for Washington to build a new legacy for a new era. But the nostalgia attached to the old look is simply too popular to replace. After testing a preview last year, the feedback from fans made this the unequivocal right decision.

Moving forward, the Commanders will be able to create lasting memories with iconic players, all while wearing the color scheme that built the franchise into what it is today. The black cloud from the Dan Snyder era is gone, and the move away from the traditional jerseys can be left in the rear-view mirror with it.
It's the best of all worlds.
If the team starts to string together consistent winning seasons, the Commanders' name and logo will come to symbolize pride and valor. And in the meantime, Washington will honor its past the way it should have from the start.
