There was an enormous sense of anticipation among Washington Commanders fans as the team got set to confirm its new uniforms for the 2026 campaign. Rumors were running rampant in the days beforehand, with majority owner Josh Harris stating his desire to recognize the franchise's traditions while focusing on the future.
Much has been made about the brand changes under previous owner Dan Snyder. He wasn't exactly focused in the final years of his tenure, as everything around him collapsed. Things look a lot more stable behind the scenes now, but this was a decision the Commanders had to get right.
Now, the uniforms have been revealed. And they did precisely what Harris promised at the annual league meeting.

It certainly looks like a slight shift towards the previous color scheme. The Commanders trailed something similar to their Super Bowl-era alternate uniforms last season. Although things didn't go according to plan on the field, these jerseys were widely approved.
And the logo, featuring a spear through the iconinc 'W', was a nice touch.
Washington isn't going to appease everybody, certainly not given how some still feel aggrieved by the way the old name was outlawed. But these new uniforms seem to have struck the right balance between the old and the new, which is what Harris wanted.

Harris was a fan first. He grew up in the stands at RFK Stadium during some of the most prolific eras in franchise history. He watched from afar as Snyder ran this once proud organization into the ground. He now has a chance to rectify these issues that fractured the fan base, and few would argue that he isn't on the right track to achieve this objective.
These uniforms are fresh, vibrant, and reflect the pulse of Washington football. They are also another step closer to reconnecting the fans, bringing everyone together as one in pursuit of a common goal.
One of the things that was sorely lost throughout the Washington Football Team and then Washington Commanders brand changes was the identity. Even when things reached rock bottom under Snyder, diehard fans still felt a sense of belonging. That almost completely evaporated. But slowly, it's coming back.
No doubt these uniforms will be a source of fierce debate on social media and beyond in the days and weeks ahead. Even so, Harris and his team delivered on their promise. It's also another step towards rebuilding the community spirit that once made this organization a powerhouse.
Nobody could ask for anything more than that.
