The Washington Commanders might have endured some hardship during the 2025 season, but at least Dan Snyder is no longer the owner.
Sure, they may have finished 5-12 after projections of going deep into the postseason. They may be looking for two new coordinators. They may be weathering a storm of rumors about the disconnect between their major decision-makers before an offseason of immense importance.
But again, at least Snyder is no longer around.
Former Commanders owner Dan Snyder ranked second on list of worst owners in pro sports history
Nick Villano from FanSided recently listed the 10 worst owners in pro sports history. Unsurprisingly, Snyder ranked highly, coming in at No. 2 and only behind former Los Angeles Clippers supremo Donald Sterling.
"His controversies piled up over years of incompetence. He was a bad owner in terms of the on-field product, but he was an even worse owner with how he treated his employees. It’s a laundry list of complaints, one more disgusting than the next. His treatment of Washington’s cheerleaders, if the reports are remotely true, was awful at best. He sued a reporter because he didn’t like how he was portrayed in an article. It was so bad to work for Snyder that his team was investigated by the House of Representatives, in which he testified before the Oversight and Reform Committee. When he did sell the team to Josh Harris and his group of investors, fans celebrated like we’ve never seen. "Nick Villano
Snyder was a stain on the franchise throughout his two-decade tenure as Washington's owner. The laundry list of scandals, the on-field descent to rock bottom, and the fumbling of several critical decisions turned this NFL powerhouse into a laughingstock. The lack of investment in FedEx Field and the toxic workplace environment saw him become a recluse. Eventually, the league forced his hand.
The dark cloud was lifted when Josh Harris' ownership group took charge. Things didn't go well on the field in 2025, but Washington's ambitious plans behind the scenes are proceeding as hoped. Snyder is a distant memory, just the way fans wanted.
The new stadium at the RFK site. Hosting the NFL Draft. Investment in Northwest Stadium. A complete regeneration of the practice facilities and a more meticulous attention to detail. More importantly, team legends and fans feel connected to the organization once again.
All Snyder can do is watch from his lavish superyacht, knowing he failed the team he followed as a child in every conceivable way. And if he'd landed at the top of this list, nobody would have complained.
