The Washington Commanders are riding a tidal wave of positivity right now. Their spirited loss at the Baltimore Ravens did nothing to detract from the optimism surrounding the organization's future. This is a project heading in the right direction, spearheaded by ambitious leaders behind the scenes and an enhanced atmosphere within the locker room.

That's not the case for others in the NFC East.

It's not been the best start for the Dallas Cowboys. Their soft underbelly is being constantly exposed and some indifferent offseason decisions are coming in for severe criticism as a result. Getting beaten to a pulp at home by the Detroit Lions in Week 6 was another damning indictment of the franchise's current direction under owner/general manager Jerry Jones.

Jones spent his 82nd birthday watching his team get embarrassed in the billion-dollar playground he proudly built. The Cowboys remain the NFL's most valuable organization and the most recognizable brand from a marketing standpoint. Unfortunately, three decades without legitimate postseason success is wearing thin.

Jerry Jones' embarrasing tirade strengthens Commanders' opportunity in 2024

Fans are tired of this team promising the earth with untold hype attached before falling by the wayside every season. This time is worse than ever, which led Jones to launch a tirade on The Shan and RJ Show on 105.3 The Fan when probed about Dallas' offseason approach.

"This is not your job. Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job. I'll get somebody else to ask these questions. I'm not kidding. You're not going to figure it out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting I'm going to today with 32 teams here, you're geniuses. One of the stupidest things I've ever done, that anybody had ever analyzed was buy the Cowboys. It was an idiot that did that. So idiot things can turn into good decisions. Smart things can turn into bad decisions. The facts are when you make one, you don't really know if it's going to be good or not at the time. You want some conversation this morning, you're getting it."

To threaten someone's job because they merely want answers and ask tough questions is outrageous. Jones' power gives him the feeling that he can do whatever he wants, but this crosses a line.

These radio presenters won't be testing him again for fear of losing employment and a chance to bring their journalistic skills to the fore. That is nothing short of disgraceful.

The Cowboys are imploding from the inside out. The cracks are beginning to show and Jones' stubborn incompetence is being exposed. Being defensive is fine, but taking out your anger in this manner is unacceptable.

This won't matter to the Commanders, even though fans cannot help but laugh at how quickly things have flipped in such a short space of time. Situations like this were embarrassingly frequent under Washington's previous owner. They were the NFC East's laughingstock for decades and brought shame to the entire league along the way.

That's not the case anymore.

All this latest uncalled-for power flex by Jones proves is the big opportunity that awaits the Commanders in 2024. They have a chance to stake a claim and become NFC East champions in Year 1 of their substantial rebuilding project. If their performances weren't enough to convince, the current state of others in the division is proof positive.

Billionaires being bullies is nothing new. Washington has more experience of that as a franchise than most. But the pendulum has shifted at long last.
