Adam Peters had a lot of problems to solve entering free agency, and he's doing a good job of resolving them so far. In the pressure cooker, the Washington Commanders general manager could at least take comfort from the fact that he's got a franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

However, that hasn't stopped some significant murmurings around the league. This was highlighted by a bombshell statement from a respected insider that Commanders fans couldn't believe.

Daniels was a superstar as a rookie, putting together arguably the best campaign for a first-year quarterback in NFL history. Things didn't go nearly as well last season, with the former LSU standout succumbing to several frustrating injuries that restricted him to just seven games, completing only four.

The Commanders' success hinges on Daniels staying healthy. He's the superstar at football's most important position. But according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, citing league conversations, Washington's name is coming up in discussions around a quarterback prospect in 2026.

Jeremy Fowler sparks outrage among Commanders fans with wild Ty Simpson report

The senior insider named the Commanders as a wild-card destination for Alabama signal-caller Ty Simpson on ESPN's morning debate show Get Up. Fowler inevitably highlighted Daniels' durability concerns as a reason why people around the league are discussing the possibility.

"I'm hearing of some wildcards. The Washington Commanders? Do they need help with Jayden Daniels' durability issues? It's a wild card, but this team is coming up in conversations."

This is inconceivable, outrageous, and everything in between.

The Commanders are building around Daniels. They re-signed Marcus Mariota to be his backup for the third-straight season. They are not in the market for a college quarterback, and certainly not where Simpson could potentially be taken in a class that isn't considered the strongest outside of projected No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.

Teams will be desperate enough to take Simpson higher than expected, potentially even in the first round. Even if the Commanders loved him, they don't have the draft capital. And selecting a quarterback two years after Daniels' arrival would be organizational malpractice of the highest order.

There is probably nothing in it. This is smoke and mirrors season. Another team or two might be trying to raise the pressure on Daniels before a critical Year 3 of his professional career. Everyone in Washington knows what's at stake, but everyone is still firmly behind the Heisman Trophy winner as he looks to remind the world just how special he is in 2026.

If the same injury problems arise, that's a different question for 2027. But for now, Daniels is the guy. And hopefully, that will be the case for the next decade.
