It's been a frustrating start to Marshon Lattimore's time with the Washington Commanders. The cornerback has yet to make his debut as he recovers from a hamstring issue. It's a gradual process, but the coaching staff are taking every possible precaution before throwing him into the lineup.

Lattimore, who was acquired via trade from the New Orleans Saints just hours before the 2024 deadline, took a big step forward this week. The former Ohio State standout participated in practice for the first time, which left many fans hoping this would result in his long-awaited bow in Washington against the Tennessee Titans.

The four-time Pro Bowler was listed as limited throughout the week. Washington is going through the process according to Quinn, but he's not going to take any unnecessary gambles with Lattimore that could result in potential problems down the stretch.

"They're hard to predict, on soft tissue injuries and so it'll be awesome to have him back out working into practice. We got a pretty strong process to go through and the player is a part of that, too. So, we're going to make all decisions, protect the team first, but man, is it good to have him back out there and get going. You can feel his energy about it, too."

Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore won't play in Week 13

Despite his return to practice, the Commanders listed Lattimore as doubtful for their final engagement before the bye week. Releasing former first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr. won't have an impact on the veteran's status for the clash. He wasn't involved enough to warrant any panic as general manager Adam Peters removed Ron Rivera's final high-end pick from the equation.

The Commanders didn't rule Lattimore out entirely on Saturday. They placed running back Austin Ekeler on injured reserve after his serious concussion sustained against the Dallas Cowboys. That leaves a slim chance, but he was among the inactive players.

Lattimore now faces the proposition of making his first Washington appearance versus the team that traded him away. The Commanders travel to the Saints in Week 15, which will be an emotional occasion with special significance for the player.

That's for the not-too-distant future. For now, the Commanders will have to make do without Lattimore as they look to end their concerning run of recent results.

Not exactly ideal, but the Commanders have plenty of experience when it comes to strategizing without Lattimore to call upon.
