The Washington Commanders sought to bolster their roster before the 2024 trade deadline. They made the biggest splash by acquiring stud cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.

Many wondered whether general manager Adam Peters would alter his thought process with the Commanders enjoying a fairytale start to the campaign. They are 7-2 and looking down on everyone within the NFC East. There is a legitimate shot to make the postseason, which isn't going unnoticed by those in positions of power.

Peters is the best man to lead this charge. He's been part of winning franchises before and knows what it takes to succeed. After speculation rose considerably in the days leading up to the trade deadline, momentum took a surge forward with mere hours to go.

Commanders make major statement with Marshon Lattimore trade

Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network revealed that Washington was in the Lattimore sweepstakes after the Saints became more receptive to offers. They are not alone, with the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs also in the market for the four-time Pro Bowler.

After some aggressive negotiating from Peters, they got their guy.

This is an exceptional acquisition for the Commanders. Lattimore is a shutdown presence on the outside with the mentality capable of fitting into Washington's new culture shift immediately. He's currently working his way back from a hamstring issue, which isn't a long-term concern. Expect him back soon and ready to make a lasting impression on Washington's postseason aspirations.

The Commanders gave up a third, fourth, and sixth-round pick in exchange for Lattimore and a fifth-rounder. It's a lot to give up. But to get the best players, you have to pay.

Two of those picks came from trades involving Jahan Dotson and John Ridgeway III. This is some outstanding business from Peters whichever way one looks at it. Something that can propel the Commanders now while also solidifying their future aspirations along the way.

If Lattimore can stay healthy, this is a masterstroke from Peters. The Commanders are back and everyone should be on notice.
