Commanders signed Rachaad White
The Washington Commanders are being strongly linked to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. But it was another of Jayden Daniels' old college teammates who joined the club first.
Running back Rachaad White made no secret of his desire to join the Commanders. He was even willing to accept a bargain-basement deal to reunite with Daniels. And considering the large role he could play within David Blough's schematic concepts, this could be an absolute steal.
- Signing Grade: A-
If White is used effectively in the passing game and on stretch runs, he can be highly productive in Washington. Having a strong relationship with Daniels will only smooth the transition.
Commanders signed Dyami Brown
Dyami Brown got more from the Jacksonville Jaguars than the Commanders were willing to pay last spring. But after an underwhelming campaign elsewhere, the wide receiver is now back on a one-year deal.
Brown's best football came down the stretch and into the playoffs during Washington's miraculous run to the NFC Championship game. This was enough for Jacksonville to take the plunge, but he once again flattered to deceive.
- Signing Grade: C
Perhaps a return to familiar surroundings will finally light the fire within Brown. His previous chemistry with Jayden Daniels is advantageous. But on a deal worth up to $3 million, the Commanders aren't paying much to find out.
Commanders signed Van Jefferson Jr.
Soon after Brown's arrival was confirmed, the Commanders also confirmed that Van Jefferson Jr. has signed a one-year deal in Washington. Things didn't go quite according to plan with the Tennessee Titans last season, but the struggling AFC South club tasked him with responsibilities he cannot accomplish at this stage of his playing career.
Jefferson's role will be more minimal in Washington. And the experienced figure will know that getting a shot with the Commanders does not necessarily mean he'll be on the 53-man roster in Week 1.
- Signing Grade: C+
Anyone expecting miracles will be out of luck, but this will provide greater depth and increased competition.
Commanders signed Jerome Ford
The Commanders weren't content with one free-agent running back, signing Jerome Ford after his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns concluded. His departure always seemed inevitable, but he has some prior production that could help with a smooth transition.
Ford may have fallen down the pecking order in Cleveland, but he went over 1,100 yards from scrimmage during the 2023 campaign. If he can reach anything close to these heights in Washington, this is a low-risk move with significant upside attached.
- Signing Grade: B
Making the team is Ford's first objective. If he can do that, there might be a role to play.
