There are rumors swirling around the Washington Commanders that paint a very different picture of the tight-knit brotherhood that was once portrayed.
Disconnect, broken down relationships, and tension are reportedly rife after a lost campaign. Kliff Kingsbury and Joe Whitt Jr. have been fired. Although head coach Dan Quinn's job appears to be safe for now, that didn't stop one analyst from touting a proposal that would shake the NFL to its foundations.
Quinn and general manager Adam Peters put on a united front to the media. Insider reports suggest their relationship is deteriorating. Whether that's accurate or not remains to be seen, but it's evident that the respected coach is on much shakier ground heading into his third offseason with the club.
ESPN analyst believes Commanders are the best fit for John Harbaugh
Evan Cohen of ESPN had a theory that seems far-fetched at best. The radio analyst proclaimed that the best fit for John Harbaugh would be the Commanders. He thought everything was in place for him to thrive, adding that Quinn is on track to be fired next year unless substantial improvements arrive.
"The best fit for John Harbaugh would be the Washington Commanders. If you think about it logically, the front office is unbelievably attractive. They got rid of their offensive and defensive coordinators, so I could bring in my own people. Jayden Daniels, who is the quarterback he's most compared to? Lamar Jackson. While they did not achieve in the postseason, I believe John Harbaugh could come in and know exactly how to maximize Jayden Daniels into an MVP-level quarterback. I believe Dan Quinn is more likely than not to get fired next year. I don't think that you could make a move better than hiring John Harbaugh."Evan Cohen

Reports from Harbaugh's agent confirmed that teams with head coaches already in place have contacted him to see if he would be interested in taking the plunge. There are also six other openings right now, with the New York Giants making an early move to potentially secure his services. There is no doubting his credentials after his prolific 18-year spell with the Baltimore Ravens, but this bold claim was precisely that.
Quinn may be on the hot seat next season, but Peters and majority partner Josh Harris are not going to fire him. Getting rid of his coordinators was enough of a sacrifice, and he earned enough equity during Washington's run to the NFC Championship game in 2024 to get the benefit of the doubt.
More importantly, Quinn never lost the locker room. There is just no telling what sort of mutiny Peters would have if he fired him for Harbaugh. Although he's deeply revered, this would send the wrong message.
It's a wild fantasy and nothing more. But make no mistake; Quinn enters the 2026 campaign on thin ice.
