Uncertainty continues to cloud the Washington Commanders' wide receiver room, which, as of now, has only added third-round rookie Antonio Williams among notable offseason moves.

There remains the possibility that a high-profile veteran such as  could join the club. However, nothing has come out of those rumors yet.

Commanders fans might need to prepare for the possibility that what they have now is what they'll have heading into the 2026 season. That's a wideout room with one Pro Bowl-level player in Terry McLaurin, and a bunch of question marks.

Commanders' continuity and opportunity could take Treylon Burks to the next level

Somebody is going to have to step up in that case. All eyes are on Williams, Luke McCaffrey, and Jaylin Lane, the team's homegrown young draft picks. But don't count out one enigmatic playmaker.

With organized team activities underway, NFL fans are getting their first impression of how their key contributors might perform. For the Commanders, former tight end Logan Paulsen has noticed that Treylon Burks has been turning heads immediately.

"It was Treylon Burks, man... he's a former first-round pick and he looked the part. He looked healthy, he looked fast, he looked super sharp on some of the acceleration and deceleration stuff. He was the guy who kind of led the charge."

Last season, the 2022 No. 18 overall pick joined the Commanders midway through the year after injuries derailed his time with the Tennessee Titans. He had a highlight-reel one-handed touchdown snag in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos, and flashed enough to earn himself another one-year deal with Washington.

Now, Burks has a full offseason to get healthy and acclimate himself to head coach Dan Quinn's clubhouse. So far, it seems to be paying off based on the rumblings out of OTAs, where he has reportedly taken a considerable amount of starting snaps opposite McLaurin.

It doesn't sound overly attractive to have Burks as your No. 2 receiver, but it's arguably the best situation he's had in his NFL career.

Burks never had a serious quarterback in Tennessee. He was never in an offense like the one David Blough is expected to run. He was a first-round pick for a reason, and the Commanders might have cracked the code to unlock him.

Washington is going to need answers beyond McLaurin, and the team is counting on its young draft picks, especially Williams. But let's not forget about Burks.

His upside might still be higher than all of them.
