The Washington Commanders were fortunate with the injury gods throughout their dream 2024 campaign, and thus far in 2025, they have continued to avoid any major concerns.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels landed on the report with a wrist issue this week, but has been cleared for Thursday Night Football as expected. All in all, the Commanders should expect a fully healthy offense and defense for their primetime Week 2 showdown on the road against the Green Bay Packers.

That said, one player of key importance remains listed as questionable.

Tress Way's status still undetermined as Commanders sign insurance policy

Tress Way is the longest-tenured player on the Commanders, having been with the organization since 2014. He was a second-team All-Pro in 2019 and has been a two-time Pro Bowler. He's been in Washington through three coaching staffs, three team names, and two ownership groups.

For many years, while the offense struggled to put up points, he was one of Washington's most reliable contributors. Though now 35 years old and not getting any younger, his job has thankfully been made a lot easier due to the emergence of Daniels and a high-powered attack that doesn't require his services all that often. Last season, there were multiple games in which he wasn't forced to punt at all.

In Sunday's season opener against the New York Giants, Way punted five times and was shaken up on a hit in the third quarter, in which Abdul Carter partially blocked his kick. The Oklahoma native injured his back after the No. 3 overall pick collided with his legs in mid-air and sent him crashing to the ground.

Way has not only been a consistent high-level performer throughout his career, but has also been extremely reliable. Only one missed game is on his record, which was due to COVID-19 in 2021. He has never missed a contest due to injury, and hopes to continue that streak on Thursday.

In case Way can't go, the Commanders have signed free agent Mitch Wishnowsky to their practice squad. The former Utah standout punted for the San Francisco 49ers for the past six seasons after being drafted in the fourth round in 2019.

In addition to Way, defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. is also listed as questionable with a knee injury. All other players who were on the report, including Daniels, wide receiver Noah Brown, and running back Austin Ekeler, have been cleared.

As stated by Rapoport, Way is "trending in the right direction" despite his questionable tag. Washington will need to hope that remains the case.
