Commanders draft Adam Randall
- Running Back | Clemson Tigers
- Round No. 6 | Pick No. 189
There are murmurings that the Washington Commanders might be higher on Clemson running back Adam Randall than almost any other team. And if Jeremiyah Love comes off the board before they go on the clock at No. 7 as expected, this could lead them to the former wide receiver later in the process.
Randall started as a wideout before converting to a running back, putting up some outstanding numbers. It's a crowded room in Washington right now, but the prospect may only be scratching the surface of what he's truly capable of.
And if Peters believes this move can bring long-term upside with some extra refinement, he won't hesitate to take Randall higher than projections.
Commanders draft Wydett Williams Jr.
- Safety | Ole Miss Rebels
- Round No. 6 | Pick No. 199
Washington could use another safety. Caleb Downs remains in contention at No. 7, but there is real smoke building around the New York Giants at No. 5. While it's a guessing game, there could be some value on Day 3 if Adam Peters can identify the right fit.
The Commanders signed Nick Cross in free agency. There are questions around everyone else, though Washington has reportedly not lost faith in Quan Martin. Even so, another development project that could immediately impact the rotation wouldn't hurt.
That's where Wydett Williams Jr. comes in. The Ole Miss product isn't an elite athlete by any stretch, but he does everything well. If Daronte Jones can find ways to maximize his skill set, he could eventually become a quality starter.
Commanders draft Cameron Ball
- Defensive Line | Arkansas Razorbacks
- Round No. 6 | Pick No. 209
No team should ever sit still in the trenches. The Commanders have Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw, and free-agent signing Tim Settle Jr. to spearhead what is expected to be a new 3-4 base front under Daronte Jones. However, adding to the team's rotation should be considered late in the draft.
It's a pretty top-heavy group of interior linemen emerging from the college ranks this year. That doesn't mean a decent option for the depth chart cannot be found later in the draft, and someone like Cameron Ball could enter the discussion if he makes it this far down the board.
Ball wasn't the best tester, which will be off-putting. However, his relentless drive, football IQ, and emerging leadership could be just as intriguing.
Commanders draft C.J. Daniels
- Wide Receiver | Miami Hurricanes
- Round No. 7 | Pick No. 223
With an extra couple of selections acquired via trade in this scenario, the Commanders can add even more competition to the wide receiver room with their final selection. Adam Peters hit the jackpot last year with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and he'll be looking for similar success this time around.
C.J. Daniels is a different kind of prospect than Deion Burks. He's long, lean, with a wide catch radius and plenty of untapped potential. He's an older recruit, and there is an injury history that needs to be closely examined, but the Commanders wouldn't be risking much by taking him here to see if he can get a better run of good fortune.
If he can, and the production starts to match his athletic traits, someone is going to strike it lucky.
