Terry McLaurin was threatening drastic action at training camp unless the Washington Commanders figured out his contract extension. And a recent report suggesting all options were on the table did nothing to quash the concerns of fans.

McLaurin believes he's one of the league's most prolific wideouts, and he's right. He also wants to be paid like one. This is giving the Commanders some concern, thanks in no small part to the fact that he'll be 30 years old in September.

That is typically the point where production begins to decline for most. McLaurin has shown no such frailties as yet, earning second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors during his first campaign with a legitimate franchise quarterback to call upon.

The two sides are reportedly working towards a deal. Talks stalled over the last month, but it would be surprising if things haven't picked up now that everyone is back in the building. McLaurin's patience is wearing thin, so this matter needs general manager Adam Peters' undivided attention until a successful conclusion arrives.

Adam Peters believes Commanders and Terry McLaurin remain committed to the common goal

Until then, McLaurin is expected to show up. Peters acknowledged that these things take time, probably longer than anyone would like. But as long as both sides don't waver from the overall objective, things should be just fine.

"I think that's just kind of the nature of our business. Obviously you'd like to get these things done quicker, but it doesn't always happen that way. ... We're dealing with, in the case of Terry, a really good player and a really good person. ... There's going to be twists and turns, but having that confidence and understanding that our goal is getting a long-term deal done, so just keeping our focus on that. "

This shouldn't come as a surprise to fans. McLaurin was disenchanted by the way his contract extension was approached by those in power. It took him by surprise and made the franchise cornerstone feel unwanted. While things aren't at breaking point just yet, it's becoming an unwanted distraction the Commanders could have done without.

All fans want is their beloved pass-catcher signed to a deal that can hopefully see him retire in Washington. Peters knows how valued McLaurin is by everyone associated with the organization — he feels the same. What's important from his perspective is finding the middle ground that works for the player and the franchise.

They're not there just yet, but talks have resumed. When push comes to shove, both McLaurin and the Commanders desire the same thing.
