Commanders could strike brutal NFC East blow with sneaky free-agent heist

The Washington Commanders need to prioritize improving their defense this offseason. However, general manager Adam Peters must also make a concerted effort to ensure that quarterback Jayden Daniels has all the pieces in place to bounce back.

Daniels was hurt too much last season. He didn't exactly reach his rookie heights when on the field, and things just became a little uninspired across the board. Head coach Dan Quinn is hoping new offensive coordinator David Blough changes all that, but there is no doubt that the personnel also needs major enhancements at the skill positions.

No stone should be left unturned. Finding immediate difference-makers in the draft will be difficult with only two picks in the first four rounds, but the Commanders are flush with cash in free agency. That is something Peters must take advantage of to make sure last season's failings become nothing more than a bump in the road.

Commanders could strike a division blow by luring Wan'Dale Robinson from the Giants

There is a chance wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. comes back if the price is right. However, Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus thought taking a daring swing at New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson would give Daniels a younger, more explosive slot option to depend upon.

"A potential landing spot for [Wan'Dale] Robinson is the Commanders. Washington tried to find success with a veteran slot receiver last season with Deebo Samuel, but the Commanders have the salary cap space to aim for a younger slot receiver to help Jayden Daniels. Robinson led all wide receivers in receiving yards out of the slot last season at 675."

Robinson enters free agency at the perfect time. He enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2025, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards despite early quarterback upheaval and Jaxson Dart's injury problems. He also recently turned 25, so there is a good chance this upturn in production is just the start of things to come.

This would strike a body blow to a division rival, which only sweetens the pot. The Giants could make a strong push to re-sign Robinson and maintain continuity around Dart. John Harbaugh's arrival as head coach legitimizes the project, so there is no telling if the gifted route-runner gets the chance to test free agency when push comes to shove.

According to Spotrac, Robinson is expected to get a four-year, $70.56 million deal, averaging $17.64 million per season. That is on the expensive side, and the Giants have just $6.94 million in available resources right now. The math may not add up from their perspective, but the former Kentucky standout will not be short of offers if he's allowed to seek them.

The Commanders would be wise to keep a close eye on developments, as Robinson has the tools to take his game to new heights with Daniels under center.
