Commanders draft Bryce Anderson

  • Safety | Texas A&M Aggies
  • Round No. 6 | Pick No. 203

Finding safeties who can impact the rotation and help on special teams is something the Washington Commanders should contemplate later in the draft. This need becomes more glaring if those in power don't offer Jeremy Chinn a new deal.

Chinn's performing well enough for an extended stay. The former second-round pick and Quan Martin have formed a decent tandem on the backend. Couple this with his outstanding athleticism and good scheme fit, and it's not hard to see why the Commanders should keep him around.

The likes of Percy Butler and Darrick Forrest might not be on the books in 2025. Bryce Anderson could fill the void as a useful rotational piece with starting potential if the necessary progress arrives.

Anderson is a heavy-hitter who loves physical contact. The Texas A&M star is a strong asset in run support and holds his own in coverage. He can be a little reckless from a discipline standpoint, but there's something for head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. to work with if the prospect declares for the draft.

Commanders draft Izavion Miller

  • Offensive Line | Auburn Tigers
  • Round No. 7 | Pick No. 234

No team should ever stand still on the offensive line. The Commanders have enjoyed great success in this area of the field this season. That shouldn't stop general manager Adam Peters from finding upgrades to the depth chart if nothing else.

Washington's starting five looks solid. Veteran offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas needs to be extended despite his advancing years. Andrew Wylie might see out the final year of his deal, but he could easily be released as part of cost-cutting measures next spring.

This need becomes more pressing if the Commanders cut ties with Wylie. If they give him a reprieve, then adding a development piece to solidify depth is something Peters will likely do later in the draft.

Izavion Miller has the athletic upside and physique that could be of use. Some technical concerns must be rectified, but the scope for improvement is high if he's allowed to develop at his own pace.

Miller is a bruising presence who can dominate when in the mood. Enhancing consistency and making better use of his superb physical attributes is the big challenge.
