Adam Peters knew what needed to be done this offseason. The Washington Commanders needed an injection of youthful energy across the NFL's oldest roster. Nothing else would have sufficed, and he delivered accordingly.
Peters was aggressive, as most expected. The Commanders turned over every stone to improve their squad. While the general manager didn't secure every preferred target, the improvements across the board were notable. With the draft approaching and more money to spend if the right players become available, more acquisitions are no doubt on the way.
This was desperately needed. The Commanders failed to meet expectations in 2025, but their potential to bounce back is glaring if Peters did his part. It's mission accomplished so far, but that may not be good news for everyone.
With this in mind, here are eight Commanders players who could be on the roster bubble after Peters' lavish spending spree this offseason.
Commanders players quietly on the roster bubble after Adam Peters’ big spending spree
Colson Yankoff - Commanders TE
The Commanders don't appear to be bringing back Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, although Adam Peters hasn't completely ruled out the possibility once he gets the all-clear to resume football activities. The general manager couldn't leave anything to chance, signing Chig Okonkwo in free agency on a three-year, $30 million deal.
Okonkwo should be an exceptional asset to the tight end room, especially as an athletic pass-catcher with the ability to exploit mismatches. John Bates is among the league's best blockers at the position, and it's unlikely Washington will give up on Ben Sinnott before a critical Year 3 for the player.
Much will depend on how many tight ends the Commanders take through, but any more arrivals are not going to look favorably on Colson Yankoff.
Shy Tuttle - Commanders DL
The Commanders raised a few eyebrows by giving Shy Tuttle a new one-year deal this offseason. However, this doesn't guarantee his place on the 53-man roster.
Tuttle arrived very late in Washington last season after he was cut by the lowly Tennessee Titans, where he struggled to make an impression. The Commanders saw enough to give him another go-around, but they also spent a decent amount to bring Tim Settle Jr. back to the team that drafted him.
If more fresh faces arrive on the defensive line, things are going to get even more difficult for Tuttle. He's got experience in a 3-4 base front, but his performances over the last two years have been lackluster at best.
