Odafe Oweh - Commanders DE/OLB
General manager Adam Peters knew what the Washington Commanders' biggest priority had to be this offseason. A defensive overhaul was desperately needed, and the edge-rushing unit needed to take center stage.
Peters aggressively achieved this objective through free agency and the draft. K'Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu both signed one-year deals and provide an immediate upgrade. Fifth-round rookie Joshua Josephs could force his way onto the rotation sooner rather than later, but the biggest acquisition of all was Odafe Oweh.
The Commanders are placing a lot of faith in Oweh, giving him a four-year, $96 million deal with $68 million guaranteed. Some in the media called this an overpay, but nobody will be complaining about the price tag if he delivers what Washington expects.
Oweh's presence was felt at OTAs. Those in attendance commented on his size, length, and burst off the snap, noting these traits caught the eye. He knows the pressure is building, and he's eager to make his big move count.
Antonio Williams - Commanders WR
Much has been made about the lack of legitimate production in the wide receiver spot, aside from two-time Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin. Speculation remains rampant around Brandon Aiyuk's arrival at some stage, but the Commanders could be waiting a long while yet before he's free to leave the San Francisco 49ers.
Until then, others have a chance to impress. Several young wideouts have done just that, with significant opportunities awaiting them as their confidence grows. But there is no doubt that OTAs only raised the optimism around third-round rookie Antonio Williams' chances of making an immediate contribution.
Coaches, reporters, and even former players have been thrilled with Williams. He's a sharp route runner with assured hands and the body control to turn upfield quickly for yards-after-the-catch opportunities. There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead, but the former Clemson star is off to a tremendous start.
Rachaad White - Commanders RB
The Commanders revamped their running back room this offseason. New offensive coordinator David Blough acknowledged that more was needed. Adam Peters duly delivered, raising the urgency for everyone involved.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt is still around, and he should play an important role after his rookie breakout. Others will also fancy their chances, but there is a growing sense that Rachaad White could be a massive difference-maker when competitive action begins.
White turned down offers from elsewhere to join the Commanders. He's reuniting with his former college quarterback, Jayden Daniels, which will help him transition smoothly. Based on the speed and explosive burst displayed at OTAs, this could be a shrewd addition at a bargain price.
The former Arizona State star is betting on himself with a one-year deal. If White continues to impress when the challenges get tougher, fans should expect him to accumulate a hefty workload in 2026.
