Commanders could trade for Renardo Green
As previously mentioned, the Washington Commanders could be on the lookout for another cornerback before the 2026 campaign. Speculation remains around Trevon Diggs potentially joining the ranks, but nothing concrete has emerged. And looking at his alarming career regression since Dan Quinn left the Dallas Cowboys, Adam Peters should think twice.
Options will become available in the coming weeks and months. Good players will be released or made available for trade. Renardo Green might be one of them, which may be a risk the Commanders are willing to take on a young player with two seasons of extensive starting experience.
Green may not be in the San Francisco 49ers' long-term plans after a poor 2025 campaign. He struggled in coverage and wasn't much better against the run. While the Niners may give him the benefit of the doubt, they recently signed Nate Hobbs and drafted Ephesians Prysock. That could make him surplus to requirements.
Commanders could trade for Jeremy Chinn
Wouldn't this be something?
The Commanders took a calculated risk by letting Jeremy Chinn walk in favor of the Las Vegas Raiders last year. He performed extremely well during the 2024 season, becoming a driving force on defense with the dynamism and instincts that had been sorely lacking. But general manager Adam Peters didn't believe this warranted an extension.
Washington's defense missed Chinn greatly. They were lackluster across the secondary, which is being nice. Though the Raiders also struggled, the former Southern Illinois standout was a rare bright light amid their doom and gloom.
The Raiders made some substantial investments in their defense this offseason. Chinn should play an important role. But in the final year of his deal, Las Vegas could possibly be tempted by the right trade offer if one comes on the table.
Nick Cross and Jeremy Chinn would be a formidable safety tandem, but the Commanders may be looking for someone with more scope in coverage.
Commanders could trade for Calvin Ridley
The debate around Washington's wide receiver room remains fierce. Some fans are content with the options available and hopeful that the young pass-catchers behind Terry McLaurin can excel in David Blough's scheme. Others don't think Jayden Daniels has enough, and things would completely capitulate if the second-team All-Pro got hurt again.
As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The only opinion that matters is the consensus within the building. And if they want another capable wideout before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the front-office supremo won't hesitate to pull the trigger.
Calvin Ridley's status is interesting. The Tennessee Titans have worked hard to improve quarterback Cam Ward's firepower, so removing the veteran may not be part of their plan. However, they added Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson this offseason. Hopes are also high for Elic Ayomanor as he enters Year 2 of his professional career.
That might make Ridley expendable, but the contract is no doubt off-putting.
