Adam Peters hasn't been afraid to make bold trades since becoming general manager. He felt the Washington Commanders were far enough along last year to be more aggressive, striking for three Pro Bowl-caliber performers in pursuit of getting the franchise back to the Super Bowl.
It didn't work out, though two out of the three trades were profitable.
Left tackle Laremy Tunsil was nothing short of exceptional, providing elite blindside protection and getting a bumper new contract this offseason. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. also performed well in difficult circumstances, but he hasn't been brought back in free agency as yet. As for cornerback Marshon Lattimore? The less said about that, the better.
These moves left the Commanders without many draft assets in 2026. Peters has adjusted his strategy slightly with long-term planning in mind. But if the right opportunities present themselves, and the compensation is acceptable, Washington's front-office leader won't completely overlook the trade market if he believes that more is needed.
With this in mind, here are eight potential post-June 1 trade candidates the Commanders could consider if it doesn't jeopardize their future flexibility.
Potential Washington Commanders trade targets to bolster their bounce-back hopes in 2026
Commanders could trade for Deonte Banks
Adam Peters has done a pretty good job of filling needs and bolstering depth throughout another busy offseason. There are a couple of position groups that would benefit from another stable veteran presence, which will be a theme here.
Cornerback is one of them. Trey Amos, Mike Sainristil, and Amik Robertson are the projected starters, with Ahkello Witherspoon also on the rotation. That could be enough, but it probably won't be. Deonte Banks would be a daring addition from a division rival, but the New York Giants might look to get something back in return after the player's inconsistent stint with the franchise.
Banks has the versatility, size, and athleticism Daronte Jones is looking for. Peters has also had no trouble making deals with other teams in the NFC East.
Commanders could trade for Keon Coleman
Much has been made about the firepower (or lack thereof) in the wide receiver room behind Terry McLaurin. The Commanders are reportedly seeking help, but despite the almost constant rumors about Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs, nothing concrete has emerged yet.
ESPN insider Dan Graziano recently touted the Commanders as a potential landing spot for Keon Coleman if the Buffalo Bills give up on the second-round pick. While he would be no sure thing as another reclamation project, he may be cheap and eager to embrace a fresh challenge enough to finally fulfill his pre-draft promise.
