Commanders could sign Jeff Okudah
Not adding to the cornerback unit was a contentious issue among the fan base. Adam Peters didn't want to push things. He wasn't going to reach with the limited resources at his disposal. And he was right to take that approach.
The Washington Commanders may think that they have enough in the cornerback room. That would be incredibly risky, especially considering Trey Amos is coming off a long-term injury, and Ahkello Witherspoon isn't exactly known for being the most dependable on the health front.
Adding more competition to the room before preparations for the new campaign get serious would be wise. And given Daronte Jones worked closely with Jeff Okudah last year, it might be a risky but worthwhile move.
Okudah hasn't lived up to the hype of a No. 3 overall selection. Injuries have been the primary cause, especially early on. He played just six games for the Minnesota Vikings last season, so the Commanders would need to be satisfied with his medical checks before pulling the trigger.
Commanders could sign DeAndre Hopkins
The Commanders waited until the third round for another wide receiver, bringing Antonio Williams on board at No. 71 overall. He was projected as a first-round pick before the 2025 campaign, but his stock slid due to injury and Clemson's shocking season. Even so, Washington believes it's found some high value.
Williams will help, but the Commanders could use another capable performer, someone with veteran experience and proven capabilities in the biggest moments. Though he may not be at the peak of his powers anymore, checking in on DeAndre Hopkins wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.
Hopkins' credentials need no introduction. He's a three-time All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowler with 13,295 receiving yards and 85 career touchdowns. While his production has regressed considerably over the last two years, it might be worth a one-year flier if the Commanders get impatient with the Brandon Aiyuk saga.
Commanders could sign Xavier Woods
The Commanders didn't take a safety during the draft. Speculation was rampant around safety Caleb Downs being the guy at No. 7 overall. Washington went with Sonny Styles instead, and he ended up on the Dallas Cowboys.
Another safety would have been nice. The Commanders signed Nick Cross in free agency, which obviously helps. There remains faith in Quan Martin to fulfill his promise. Will Harris, Tyler Owens, and Percy Butler are also around. But just to be sure, adding another proven veteran to the room has undoubted benefits.
Xavier Woods was released by the Tennessee Titans this offseason. Nothing much went right for the defensive back with the AFC South club, but his production for the Carolina Panthers before that could be worth taking a chance on.
With 660 tackles in nine seasons, Woods could be a solid rotational presence and added leader within Daronte Jones' system. And he would be cheap.
