Will Harris - Commanders S

The Washington Commanders went into the 2025 season with the belief that Will Harris could fill the void left by Jeremy Chinn. Adam Peters let the explosive safety walk in free agency, but confidence was high in his replacement.

It didn't take long for that to diminish.

Harris went to injured reserve after just two games. When the defensive back eventually returned to the lineup, he looked a yard short in both athleticism and anticipation. He wasn't alone in that regard, but it was deeply disappointing nonetheless.

Nobody thought the Commanders would stand pat with their defensive back end this offseason. Nick Cross came on board, who's got tone-setting credentials closer to the line of scrimmage in keeping with the gifts Chinn once brought to the table in Washington. With reports indicating faith in Quan Martin to bounce back under new coordinator Daronte Jones, Harris may have a lesser role this time around.

Jordan Magee - Commanders LB

Another big priority for Adam Peters this offseason was strengthening the linebacking corps. Bobby Wagner's time with the club was likely over, and the Commanders had to get more dynamic at the defensive second level to stand any chance of making the required improvements.

Peters was smart enough to realize this, signing Leo Chenal in free agency to provide energy and physicality. The Commanders were also high on Ohio State prospect Sonny Styles, though they didn't believe there was much chance of him falling to No. 7 overall in the draft.

They were wrong. The Commanders got the good luck they needed, and Peters didn't hesitate to bring Styles on board. He's got franchise cornerstone upside. With Daronte Jones switching Frankie Luvu back to his off-ball role, this position group now looks like an area of strength.

What this means for Jordan Magee remains to be seen. The Commanders believe he can make a bigger impact with another offseason to hone his craft. However, he looks pretty far down the pecking order right now.

Treylon Burks - Commanders WR

Even though the Commanders have made some slight tweaks to their wide receiver room this offseason, most fans and experts believe there is not enough reliability around quarterback Jayden Daniels right now. Adam Peters will have a good idea of where things stand, so it wouldn't be surprising to see another veteran join the fold at some stage.

Of course, there remains speculation that Brandon Aiyuk will eventually join, though there is just no telling when his saga with the San Francisco 49ers will conclude. The Commanders have made contact with Jauan Jennings, and bringing Deebo Samuel Sr. back couldn't be completely dismissed either.

Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson Jr. were the free-agent signings. The Commanders also spent their third-round pick on Antonio Williams, which adds another fascinating dynamic to the equation. Treylon Burks got a new one-year deal this offseason, but he needs to stand out all summer long to avoid becoming an afterthought under new offensive coordinator David Blough.
