Nobody needs to go over what went wrong for the Washington Commanders anymore. Fans should be tired of debating by now. This is all about looking forward and flipping the script.
The Commanders made significant changes to their playing personnel this offseason. Head coach Dan Quinn went bold, replacing his offensive and defensive coordinators with rookie NFL play-callers. More importantly, the positivity and vibes were incredibly high throughout Washington's early offseason program, with everyone buying in and putting in the work to ensure better fortunes.
Motivation wasn't really needed. The players around were stung last season. The new signings and draft picks immediately came in with a mindset to turn the tide. There is no complacency, no taking shortcuts, and no going through the motions. If the same trend continues at training camp, the Commanders will be in a good spot.
Fans are seemingly encouraged. The Commanders have a tough start, so hitting the ground running is crucial. But if they can get to their bye week still in the fight, Quinn's squad might not be too far away from entering contention once again.
And if this scenario becomes reality, these Commanders players will be well on their way to rewriting their narratives.

Mike Sainristil - Commanders CB
Mike Sainristil is a curious case. The cornerback was a second-round pick in 2024 and immediately became an important part of the defense. He forces plenty of turnovers, but he also allows too many big plays. It's problematic, but the appointment of Daronte Jones might be enough to find a happy medium.
Jones' work with defensive backs is deeply respected. He can get a tune out of almost everybody, so it would be surprising if Sainristil didn't add his name to the list. The former Michigan star is undersized, and sticking to one position rather than flip-flopping between inside and outside would be advantageous, but the talent is not in question.
The Commanders will be counting heavily on Sainristil once again. Washington eased its cornerback concern with the signing of Rasul Douglas, but Jones needs his young guns to step up and become franchise cornerstones. If he can do this, and find the consistency needed to be stickier in coverage while also capitalizing on turnovers, this defense will benefit enormously.
Sainristil now has two years of experience under his belt. If Jones can polish certain areas of his game, it's all systems go toward becoming a total package.
