There is a tremendous amount riding on the Washington Commanders' 2026 season. That might be understating things slightly.
Head coach Dan Quinn has gone through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over his first two years. However, the pressure is now on to get things trending up.
Reaching the conference championship game in Year 1 under Quinn's guidance meant the Commanders got way too ahead of themselves. A five-win campaign followed, which was unacceptable no matter how many injuries the team was dealing with.
General manager Adam Peters reacted accordingly with another roster revamp. Even so, the Commanders' fortunes are still hanging in the balance.
They have talent. They also have concerns that need to be addressed.
Losing left tackle Laremy Tunsil and Nick Allegretti's absence over the summer leaves questions that must be answered along the offensive line. There are potential problems at cornerback, and the defensive trenches look light on legitimate depth after Johnny Newton's torn pectoral.
Not exactly ideal, but the Commanders are all out of excuses.
It's a high-stakes situation for almost everybody.
Nobody needs to be told what might come next if Quinn cannot turn the tide. Several players are fighting for new deals or to stay relevant in Washington. But at the end of the day, this is a results business.

Antonio Williams leads rookie receivers in receptions
All the hype has centered on the veteran wide receiver duo of Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs. They will be the focal point, but there is growing intrigue around what third-round rookie Antonio Williams could potentially accomplish within David Blough's system.
Williams is an interesting case study.
His first-round projection before the 2025 college season fell flat, but there were mitigating circumstances attached. With the Commanders looking for receiver help, they didn't hesitate to take the Clemson product at No. 71 overall. And after a bedding-in period this offseason, the flashes of promise at training camp were difficult to ignore.
His sharp route-running, ability to identify the soft spots in coverages, and willingness after the catch looked well-suited to Blough's pro-style concepts. While the Amon-Ra St. Brown comparisons are a bit far-fetched right now, there is nothing to suggest Williams cannot make a contribution.
Just how big of a contribution remains to be seen.
McLaurin and Diggs are the top dogs, but Williams could be next in line. And if he can lead all NFL rookies in receptions, the Commanders' offense will be in good shape.
