Amik Robertson - Commanders CB
The Washington Commanders had some questions in the secondary entering Week 3. Mike Sainristil's problems were well documented, and safety Nick Cross was ruled out with an internal injury. But fortunately, they have Amik Robertson.
While Robertson may be classed as undersized, he punches well above his weight. The free-agent signing was nothing short of sensational against the Seattle Seahawks, putting together one of the best first halves you'll see from any corner around the league this season.
This trend continued in the second half, too.
Robertson was everywhere, displaying the relentless desire and controlled coverage that the Commanders were counting on. It's been a superb start to his time in Washington, and he is now firmly cemented as the team's top cornerback after just three games.
A few eyebrows were raised when the Commanders signed Robertson in free agency. Based on his early efforts, this could be one of general manager Adam Peters' shrewdest moves.
Loser No. 2
Brandon Coleman - Commanders OT
The Commanders' offensive line started the game well enough. Things tailed off as the contest wore on, and it looked like the Seahawks' vaunted defensive front was turning the tide late in the game.
That wasn't the case, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.
Washington is trying to tread water with a group missing both left tackle Laremy Tunsil and right guard Sam Cosmi. They are among the league's best, so any team would miss players of this caliber. But the Commanders need more from those tasked with filling the void.
Brandon Coleman is among them. The TCU product had some nice moments, but he gave up six pressures and failed to set his anchor effectively against the run. There was always going to be an adjustment period for the 2024 third-round pick, but he's got to pick things up the rest of the way if this offense wants to function effectively.
Winner No. 6
David Blough - Commanders OC
Head coach Dan Quinn promised himself that he wouldn't let a talented young coach leave the building again after his time with the Atlanta Falcons. That was among the biggest reasons David Blough was promoted to offensive coordinator, a big risk with his own job prospects under scrutiny.
Blough is starting to repay this faith. He is looking a lot more comfortable now, and he put together a masterclass in closing a game out to ensure Washington got a massive win on home soil.
There is a calmness to Blough's that's hard not to love. He knows when things are working and when they aren't. He isn't afraid to make adjustments and knows how to read what's unfolding on the field.
For a 31-year-old coordinator with no previous experience, this is highly encouraging.
The Commanders might not have Blough for long if he keeps this up. But they are in the best possible hands until a head-coaching opportunity presents itself.
