Nobody really cared how the Washington Commanders played on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. Winning was all that mattered, and head coach Dan Quinn's squad managed to get their second triumph of the campaign with minimal fuss.
It could have easily gone the other way early on. The Commanders were beyond sloppy in the first quarter, falling into a 10-point hole that drew a few boos from the stands at Northwest Stadium.
Fortunately, the Commanders got it together, coming up with 27 unanswered points at the best possible time. The under-strength Eagles had no real answer, and Washington came away as comfortable victors to ease a little bit of pressure on Quinn's shoulders.
One win isn't going to change much if the Commanders don't build on it, and things will be much more difficult against the Los Angeles Rams next time out. But they finally have momentum, and with the NFC East wide open, don't count them out just yet.
That's for the future. For now, here are six winners and two losers from Washington's prime-time triumph at Northwest Stadium.
Winners and losers from the Washington Commanders' scrappy triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles
Winner No. 1
Drew Stevens - Commanders PK
Things didn't start well for Drew Stevens on prime time, as he pulled his first field goal wide of the mark from 55 yards. Fortunately, the rookie kicker was flawless after that, helping the Commanders secure a morale-boosting win.
Stevens hit from 56, 39, 25, and 42 yards. He nailed his only extra point attempt, and since Week 3, the Iowa product has only missed one of 12 field-goal attempts.
There were some early growing pains as expected, but Stevens is now starting to find the consistency needed. He's quietly putting together an encouraging campaign, which is also vindicating Washington's decision to choose the undrafted free agent over veteran Jake Moody in the summer.
Stevens is stacking good displays. He is a perfect 10-for-10 this season from inside the 50, so if he gets even more consistent as we go along, the Commanders may have found their kicker of the future at last.
Winner No. 2
Sam Cosmi - Commanders OL
There is no doubt Sam Cosmi is one of the few interior offensive linemen around the league who looks forward to playing against Jalen Carter. The prolific right guard has a good record versus Philadelphia's dominant defensive lineman, and has no problem taking him one-on-one to ease the burden on others.
Cosmi was sensational against Carter once again.
There were very few (if any) moments of struggle, which is a testament to Cosmi's consistency and ability to take on such a steep challenge. The Commanders have problems elsewhere along the protection, but the Texas product is among the league's best right guards for a reason.
The Commanders needed Cosmi to win this individual battle, and he did. It follows on from his dominant display against Carter in Week 1 this season, and the former Georgia game-wrecker will be glad to see the back of him for another year.
