Commanders could trade for Kayshon Boutte

Kayshon Boutte is in an unfortunate situation. But could his previous connection to Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels provoke general manager Adam Peters to make a bold trade bid for the wideout?

The New England Patriots are coming off an AFC Championship triumph, and they are looking to go one better this time around. This was highlighted by their blockbuster trade for A.J. Brown, a real statement of intent for a club looking to cement their status at the NFL's top table.

That will have an inevitable ripple effect, and Boutte could be the one most impacted.

It's no secret that Boutte is looking for a new deal. He opted not to attend a portion of New England's offseason program to make his point, but it fell on deaf ears. The Patriots also signed Romeo Doubs in free agency, so they might decide to hold off on another deal for the 2023 sixth-round pick out of LSU.

Boutte caught 48 passes for 538 receiving yards and two touchdowns during his one season playing with Daniels in college. The connection is already established, so the transition to the Commanders should go smoothly in this scenario. However, he'd probably want a new contract upon joining the team, which might be a stumbling block from Peters' perspective.

Commanders could trade for Marvin Mims Jr.

The Commanders are reportedly looking for a speedier wide receiver to complement what they already have right now. That would add a different dynamic, though the likes of Treylon Burks, Jaylin Lane, and Terry McLaurin can turn on the jets once they get into space. Luke McCaffrey is another, so it has to be the right fit rather than just making any move to appease fans.

It might be worth keeping an eye on Marvin Mims Jr.'s situation with the Denver Broncos.

The AFC West club has Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, and new arrival Jaylen Waddle entrenched as their starting trio. There could still be a place for the Oklahoma product on the squad, especially considering he's a two-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro kick returner. However, the franchise may also decide to cash in.

This is Mims' contract year, and there's no telling whether the Broncos will offer him another deal when they have so much money committed elsewhere in their receiver room. The Commanders could use someone with his explosiveness and ability to generate yards after the catch, but he might be a little too similar to what they already have right now to warrant giving up a draft pick to secure his services.
