Dyami Brown - Commanders WR
The Washington Commanders gave wide receiver Dyami Brown another chance this offseason. Even though his one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't go according to plan, Adam Peters believed enough in his capabilities to bring him back.
Brown's had a steelier determination about him all offseason. He learned some harsh lessons in Jacksonville. He's been working tirelessly to hone his craft, spending as much time as possible with Jayden Daniels to rekindle their chemistry.
There have also been some positive signs, though standing out in the summer has never been a problem for the North Carolina product.
Getting it done when things matter more has proven complicated for Brown. He got a decent one-year deal from Jacksonville after his playoff breakout with the Commanders, but things fizzled out quickly. And with competition for places so fierce lower down the depth chart in Washington, there is just no telling where things go from here.
The 2021 third-round pick could make the team, but it's not guaranteed by any stretch. If others are preferred, Peters might see whether another team can take him off Washington's hands.
It wouldn't be anything more than a pick swap, or maybe a player-for-player transaction, but anything would be a bonus if he doesn't do enough to make the 53-man roster.
Will Harris - Commanders S
The safety dynamic remains a subject of debate among fans. Washington kept faith with those who underperformed last season, adding only Nick Cross to the ranks in free agency. While it's still early days, this faith is being repaid.
Tyler Owens and Quan Martin have both made significant improvements this offseason under defensive coordinator Daronte Jones' guidance. Cross and Jeremy Reaves bring experience, and Percy Butler's value on special teams could earn him a spot. That should be enough, which potentially leaves Will Harris on the outside looking in.
Harris signed a two-year deal in free agency last year, but his first season in Washington was blighted by injury. He seems to have lost some of his athleticism as a result, and his positional sense has also raised concerns during Washington's preseason slate.
Whether there would be any interest in Harris if the Commanders became receptive to offers is the big question. His experience could be useful for a team in need of more depth, but it's starting to seem as if Washington's defense can cope without him.
If the Commanders release or trade Harris this offseason, they would save $3.76 million on their salary cap while incurring $1 million in dead money. Don't be surprised if it's one or the other.
