Commanders must avoid Stefon Diggs
Adam Peters solved one glaring issue with ruthless efficiency, striking with conviction to secure Deebo Samuel Sr.'s services via trade from the San Francisco 49ers. The versatile wide receiver is highly motivated to silence his doubters in a contract year. Considering this cost the Washington Commanders nothing more than a fifth-round selection, it could be a steal if he maximizes the opportunity to flourish alongside Terry McLaurin.
Samuel will help enormously. The Commanders also need more in their wide receiver room with only three under contract currently.
Noah Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Jamison Crowder are candidates to be re-signed. That might not be the case with Dyami Brown, who could get a better offer from elsewhere after showing signs of life in the playoffs.
Stefon Diggs would have been a high-profile target for the Commanders (or anyone else) once upon a time. That's not the case anymore.
The wide receiver brings plenty of baggage after making life difficult with both the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. Diggs is also coming off a torn ACL and is 31 years old. Accusations of being a locker room distraction are another red flag that should be enough to cross him off Washington's list of potential options.
Commanders must avoid Cam Robinson
As previously mentioned, the Commanders could use another offensive line revamp in some capacity this offseason. Sam Cosmi's absence will be sorely felt regardless of who comes into the organization. There's also concern about the offensive tackle positions and how they might impact Washington's ability to get over the hump.
Brandon Coleman flashed promise as a rookie left tackle. It wasn't perfect by any stretch, but the Commanders could give him another year on the blindside before determining where he'll be best suited moving forward.
Veteran right tackle Andrew Wylie came in for criticism last season despite demonstrating qualities in pass protection. It would be a surprise if he wasn't starting again, but Peters shouldn't hesitate to examine upgrades if the right opportunities present themselves.
Cam Robinson is set to hit free agency. He's an accomplished performer when firing on all cylinders. However, the move comes with too much risk attached at this stage of the player's career.
Robinson's run-blocking is a major issue. He's more consistent in pass protection, but it's not the sure thing teams would expect for the money he'll likely demand on the open market.
Nothing can be completely ruled out. Even so, Robinson should be a non-starter all things considered.
