Josh Conerly Jr. - Commanders OT

Josh Conerly Jr. has gone through the unavoidable growing pains typically associated with rookie offensive tackles. It's one of the hardest positions for first-year players to transition into, and even though it's still far from perfect, the No. 29 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft has shown immense promise versus high-caliber opposition.

Conerly's early-season baptism of fire was a wake-up call. He came through it and learned a lot. The former Oregon standout has visibly grown in stature over the second half of 2025, displaying accomplished pass protection, solid run blocking, and sound technique that keep edge rushers at arm's length.

There are times when Conerly gets blown up or beaten for speed, but they are becoming less frequent. He's also had the perfect mentor in five-time Pro Bowl Laremy Tunsil, which resulted in the duo becoming a bookend edge tandem capable of solidifying two critical positions for the foreseeable future.

These rookie experiences will only serve Conerly well moving forward. Another offseason to improve his play strength and refine his technique should lead to significant improvements next time around. The Commanders have plenty of problems elsewhere on the roster, but general manager Adam Peters knows that the offensive tackle positions are secured long-term.

Terry McLaurin - Commanders WR

It's been a disappointing campaign overall for wide receiver Terry McLaurin. His lengthy streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons is over as a quad/hip flexor injury kept him out for an extended period. Considering this came after the pass-catcher held out all summer in a contract standoff with general manager Adam Peters, it only added to the frustration.

McLaurin's been a model of consistency and durability before 2025. He earned second-team All-Pro honors last season, but things have looked a lot different this time around. The Ohio State product has barely been on the field with quarterback Jayden Daniels, and the health problems prevented him from making his typically influential impact. However, there's been a lot to like about the veteran's performance levels since returning to the lineup.

Playing for nothing other than pride is a depressingly familiar feeling for McLaurin. However, he is still committed, still giving maximum effort, and is still leading from the front. And over the last three games, the two-time Pro Bowler has reminded Commanders' fans and everyone around the league just how special he is when healthy.

It doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it's a strong message that McLaurin remains a focal point. Hopefully, he gets a clear run of luck on the injury front in 2026.
