Van Jefferson Jr. - Commanders WR
Stefon Diggs' arrival is a welcome boost for the Washington Commanders. Unfortunately, it pushes everyone aside from Terry McLaurin a little further down the pecking order.
And for free-agent signing Van Jefferson Jr., it might just put him off the roster entirely.
Jefferson was an understated addition to the squad this offseason. This gave him a fighting chance to make the 53-man roster but nothing more. However, there were growing signs that he could secure his spot on the team with some strong practices so far.
That dynamic has shifted. Jefferson will still get a shot, but Adam Peters is unlikely to give up on his young breakout hopefuls, many of whom were drafted by Washington's front-office supremo.
The 2020 second-round pick out of Florida seems much more expendable, so it'll take a massive effort from here to remain part of the franchise's plans after Diggs finally worked something out.
Winner No. 2
Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB
There will be nobody happier with Stefon Diggs finally securing his dream homecoming than Jayden Daniels.
The quarterback now has a legitimate 1-2 punch in the receiver room to depend upon with Diggs and Terry McLaurin. And if everyone stays healthy, this could be a prolific offense in 2026.
Daniels doesn't need to be a hero anymore. He has weapons, a new offensive system that should play to his strengths, a strong-looking offensive line, and a ground game capable of setting the tone. There will be times when the signal-caller has to make things happen, but those will be less frequent thanks to the enhancements made around him.
Diggs is a very quarterback-friendly receiver. He knows how to generate separation quickly and easily. He's a dependable weapon who can shine in the biggest moments. And his ability to help Drake Maye last season will only have a positive impact on Daniels.
Loser No. 2
Dyami Brown - Commanders WR
As stated previously, the Commanders are unlikely to give up on their drafted wide receivers despite acquiring Stefon Diggs. That puts everyone else in a real fight, and it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top.
This places Dyami Brown firmly under the microscope.
The 20121 third-round pick by Washington got another go-around with the team this offseason after an ill-fated year with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's come back looking sharp and ready to make a bigger impression, but his chances of significant involvement have probably decreased now.
Brown still has a chance. He's flashed promise this summer, but fans have seen that all too often without much substance to back it up. The North Carolina product has a strong rapport with Jayden Daniels, which should serve him well. But if he cannot get ahead of others vying for roster spots, he could be on the outside looking in when final cuts are due.
