Who were the big winners from what became an eventful 2023 NFL Draft for the Washington Commanders and the last with Dan Snyder as the owner?

The Washington Commanders navigated their 2023 NFL Draft selections well all things considered. Some key needs were met early and there was even room for a couple of high-upside gambles later in the process that can reap some long-term rewards.

This is always a nervous time for established veterans. A fresh batch of college prospects looking to take their spots had some nervously looking over their shoulders, especially considering how high the stakes will be next season once the sale becomes official in the coming weeks.

Ron Rivera has preached the importance of increasing competition across the board this offseason. Something that can hopefully have a positive effect throughout the preparation stage before their Week 1 opener this fall.

Looking at the bigger picture, here are four big winners from the Commanders’ draft in 2022.

The Washington Commanders had a need along their defensive second level heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. One that those in power largely ignored aside from signing a couple of intriguing undrafted free agents once the selection process concluded.

This could be good news for David Mayo in pursuit of prominent involvement in 2023. The veteran is a long-time associate of Ron Rivera’s and now has an opportunity to solidify the outside linebacker role opposite Jamin Davis despite others likely to fancy their chances.

Mayo is also a reliable special teams contributor, which helps. But the Commanders could see something more in the player based on their draft activity.
