Quan Martin wants to seize Commanders’ chance

Even though some questioned the mindset surrounding Quan Martin becoming the Washington Commanders’ second-round selection, that does not detract from what a high-quality performer the defensive back looked like on film. His time with Illinois saw the Fighting Illi become one of the top secondaries in college football, which also brought a top-five pick this year in the form of Devon Witherspoon.

Martin is cut from the typical Illinois cloth. He is athletic, and hard-hitting, boasting position versatility that only enticed him to the Commanders further.

When speaking to the team’s website about what he can bring to Washington, Martin stated his credentials. It’s also clear that the physical specimen is keen to maximize the significant opportunity in front of him.

"“Football just always came natural to me man. Just being able to play, just understanding the game very well at a high level while also competing fast. Just my understanding, like route concepts, just the poise I play with there. I feel like it’s one of the hardest positions to play in the back end. So just being able to just understand that position and go make plays and help supporting the run.”"

Adding Emmanuel Forbes and Martin to the options already available is the breath of fresh air the Commanders desperately needed. What this means for veterans like the aforementioned Kendall Fuller remains to be seen, but Ron Rivera is in no position to be sentimental with new ownership coming into the fold.
