What are the worst NFL Draft picks during head coach Ron Rivera’s stint with the Washington Commanders so far?

As the Washington Commanders await news regarding new ownership getting the green light, Ron Rivera and his staff are putting the finishing touches on their board ahead of a crucial 2023 NFL Draft for the organization. Something that could make or break the head coach’s chances of progress next season.

Rivera seems pretty confident in the current state of affairs. It hasn’t been the flashiest offseason by any stretch of the imagination for the Commanders. Still, if everyone stays clear of injuries, there is enough talent to mold a potential contender.

Adding a few capable contributors via the draft will only help Washington’s cause. Rivera’s drafted well more often than not since joining the team, but there are a few selections he’d probably like to have back if given the chance.

With this in mind, we ranked the four worst draft picks made by Rivera over his three-year tenure so far.

Sam Cosmi – Commanders OL

  • Round No. 2 (Pick No. 51)
  • 2021 NFL Draft

When the Washington Commanders got their hands on Sam Cosmi, he was seen as a potential fixer to the constant stream of edge protectors who hadn’t met expectations after the team traded Trent Williams to the San Francisco 49ers. However, the Texas product hasn’t met these expectations as yet.

Cosmi’s been an indifferent performer throughout his Commanders career so far. Considering the free-agent signing of Andrew Wylie, it appears as if Washington will potentially switch the former second-round pick onto the interior and see if this brings about an upturn in consistency.

If not, Cosmi will be relegated to backup duties.
