Which cornerback prospects could the Washington Commanders add in a position of extreme need during the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft?

Even though the Washington Commanders picked up Cameron Dantzler Sr. off the waiver wire during a busy free agency period around the league, this doesn’t diminish the need for a true shutdown presence at the cornerback position. Something that’s been sorely lacking for years.

This should be among the team’s top priorities during the 2023 NFL Draft. Eric Bieniemy will want some immediate difference-makers on offense, but the chances of using the No. 16 overall selection on a defensive back that can lock down one side of the field are high based on most projections.

That’s not to say it’s guaranteed. Ron Rivera has his own way of going about his business and won’t be listening to the outside noise whatsoever ahead of a critical selection period for the franchise.

However, ignoring a decent class at the top end would be a grave error in judgment. With that being said, here are ten cornerbacks the Commanders could draft in 2023.

Commanders could draft Christian Gonzalez

Christian Gonzalez is one of the best cornerbacks in this year’s class. A tremendous athlete that can operate within any scheme, the Washington Commanders should be monitoring developments ahead of them closely on the off chance he falls into their laps.

If this scenario came to fruition, it would be difficult to pass up. Gonzalez is a smooth coverage corner that can also anticipate things efficiently in zone concepts, which makes him tailor-made for Jack Del Rio’s defense if he makes it that far down the pecking order.
