Commanders linked to Mac Jones

There seems to be a lingering sense of frustration between Bill Belichick and Mac Jones. Reports surfaced that indicated the quarterback has been shopped around the league by the New England Patriots, which could indicate they are willing to move forward with Bailey Zappe as their No. 1 option under center in 2023.

Inevitably, the Washington Commanders were one of the first teams that came up as a potential destination. This is despite Ron Rivera declaring his happiness with Jacoby Brissett and Sam Howell earlier this offseason.

Still, this is speculation season. And a recent conversation from WSTP highlighted that a deal could be struck between Washington and the Patriots during the 2023 NFL Draft.

This makes absolutely no sense. At all.

Rivera’s already made one failed trade at football’s most prestigious position when he bet on Carson Wentz, which was a complete disaster. Therefore, the head coach would be wise not to do the same again with Jones – whose career could go either way at this juncture.

Also, after Rivera decided not to pursue a genuine franchise quarterback in Lamar Jackson only to trade for Jones, it’s a bad look. One that might cost the respected figure his job when it’s all said and done.

Trading for Jones is a non-starter until further notice. Even if won’t stop people from adding fuel to the fire.
