Jeff Bezos still lurking with Commanders’ sale imminent

With two fully-financed bids officially in for the Washington Commanders, time is of the essence for Jeff Bezos if he did want to throw his hat into the ring. The billionaire reportedly hired an investment firm to explore the possibility recently, but nothing concrete has emerged as yet and might not if one offer gets the green light from Dan Snyder and the NFL.

Magic Johnson confirmed that his group led by Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales was hopeful something could get rubber-stamped soon. Something that would signal the start of an exciting new era for the Commanders and its long-suffering fanbase.

Bezos is the wildcard given his financial clout to blow any other bid out of the water. This is reportedly drawing nervousness from other interested parties according to a recent feature from Theodore Schleifer from Puck News.

"“Other prospective ownership groups remain on pins and needles, disturbed that Bezos is playing three-dimensional chess in a highly irregular, highly idiosyncratic bake-off. Unlike Harris, Bezos easily can meet the requirement that the lead buyer own 30 percent of the team with no need for a fundraising consortium—Jay-Z, a Bezos pal, and Matthew McConaughey, a Snyder pal, are part of his exploratory bid for kicks. Neither Harris nor Apostolopoulos can defeat Bezos in a game of checkbook roulette. After all, if Bezos truly wants the Commanders, he has the ability to plop down a big number and put an end to the auction.”"

The league doesn’t want this dragging on for too much longer, in all honesty. Bezos might make his play shortly, but there’s every chance he could wait around for his hometown Seattle Seahawks, too.

Only time will tell.
