Luke Musgrave scouting report

It hasn’t been the easiest road to the NFL Draft for Luke Musgrave. The former Oregon State standout endured some rough luck on the injury front, but all signs point to this being a thing of the past if his performance levels during the assessment process are any indication.

Musgrave is the perfect blend of size and athleticism. His 6-foot-6 frame and long wingspan make him a mismatch across the middle and in the red zone, which is something the Washington Commanders sorely lacked from their tight-end options in 2022.

The prospect has a decent short-area burst and functional strength to create separation. Musgrave also boasts soft hands and the athleticism needed to make a serious difference in contested catch situations.

Another thing that sets Musgrave apart from most prospects is his vision and balance. He is a significant threat with the football in his hands and represents a stern proposition to bring down once momentum is generated.

While there is plenty of work ahead from a blocking standpoint, the Commanders wouldn’t need that from Musgrave if John Bates sticks around. Focusing on the pass-catching element within Eric Bieniemy’s scheme is far more beneficial, and this is where he can excel immediately when one factors everything into the equation.
