How would Christian Gonzalez fit on the Commanders?

  • Week 1 starter with high-level upside

As stated previously, Christian Gonzalez is arguably the best cornerback in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, there are others such as Joey Porter Jr., Devon Witherspoon, and Kelee Ringo who no doubt also think they deserve the distinction.

Gonzalez has all the momentum right now. Therefore, the Washington Commanders will have to wait and see whether or not the defensive back makes it to No. 16 overall.

From the outside looking in, it appears unlikely. Gonzalez could go as high as No. 6 overall to the Detroit Lions looking at their need for a true difference-maker within their secondary, but it’s all speculation at this juncture.

It’s a big if, but if Gonzalez is on the board when Washington goes on the clock, it would be a hard proposition to turn down. Something that could make an immense difference for Jack Del Rio’s defense as they look to enter the elite category next season.

Porter and others wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s absolutely imperative that the Commanders spend one of their first two selections on strengthening their cornerback options.

And who knows, they might get lucky where Gonzalez is concerned.
